You invested in solar panels to save energy and help the environment. But you may have inadvertently built a five-star hotel for local wildlife. The gap between your roof shingles and the solar array is the perfect height for pigeons, squirrels, and roof rats to build nests, protected from wind, rain, and predators.

## The Problems with "Solar Critters"

### 1. Reduced Efficiency
While the animals live *under* the panels, their mess ends up *on* them. Bird droppings can significantly block sunlight, reducing the energy output of your system.
*   **Heat Retention:** Nests built under panels block airflow. Solar panels need air circulation to stay cool; overheating reduces their efficiency and lifespan.

### 2. Fire Hazard
Squirrels are notorious for chewing wires. Solar systems have extensive wiring harness setups underneath. If a squirrel chews through a wire, it can cause an arc fault. Combine an electrical spark with dry bird nesting material (straw/twigs) packed under the panel, and you have a recipe for a roof fire.

### 3. Roof Damage
Bird droppings are acidic. As guano accumulates on your roof surface under the panels, it can eat away at asphalt shingles and tar paper, leading to leaks that are incredibly difficult to find and repair without removing the entire solar array.

## The Solution: Solar Mesh Guarding

The only effective way to stop this is to physically block access to the underside of the panels.

1.  **Clean Out:** First, we must remove the existing residents. We flush out birds and squirrels and remove the nesting debris and droppings (which requires careful handling to avoid damaging the system).
2.  **Mesh Installation:** We install a specialized, PVC-coated steel mesh around the entire perimeter of the solar array.
3.  **No-Drill Clips:** Crucially, we use special solar clips that attach the mesh to the panel frames *without drilling holes*. Drilling into the frame voids your solar warranty. Our method protects your warranty while protecting your roof.
